He said she
said. Words spoken from a couple in love:
Pick your
battles. That’s what she said. Love passionately. That’s what he said. You get
to choose who you wake up to every morning. She said. I wake up grateful for
her every morning. He said. Love takes work. She said. The freedom within
partnership is the best part of it all. He said. Laugh without restraint. She
said. Love without boundary. He said. Be yourself, every minute of every day.
She said. You are perfect just the way you are. He said. Never break trust. She
said. Hold her hand when you don’t know what to say. He said. Nothing anyone else says matters, he's got your back. She said. My corner is taken. He said. Ask
questions. She said. Listen. He said. Just love. With all of loves highs and
lows, just love. They said.
"Everything
that I understand,
I understand only because I love."- Leo Tolstoy
Maybe it’s the
weather. The spring tease, attached to longer days that make us feel a little nostalgic.
I looked up the word nostalgia, this is what I found: a wistful or excessively sentimental yearning for a return to
some past period or irrecoverable condition. Sometimes this feeling feels
like a warm hug. Sometimes it ignites a loneliness that seems unrelenting.
Whether we are nostalgic for our younger days, a summer of passionate love, a
time of great personal transformation that seems all too distinct now or
perhaps it is a sweet nostalgia that makes you smile up at the sun lost in
memories of laughter or stillness. Living in the past can ignite both feelings
of emptiness and abundance in your present. Distance from a time, place, person
or feeling not only tempts nostalgia, but also perspective, and maybe even objectivity. We
can learn from where we have been - what we have seen - ways we have acted and
it is from this great learning that we inform our present and live in the realization
of our innate beauty. Honour your pasts but please, live in your present. Let
go of the past by forgiving. Negative
feelings about the past will only you hold you back from realizing your full
potential. Let go of the fantasy of what could or should have been. Live for
today. Moment by moment. Focus on what you can do today to achieve your dreams
and reach your goals. Sometimes change just happens and we can’t do anything to
stop it. Sometimes it’s a good thing - sometimes it can be a bad thing. The
hardest thing to accomplish is the changing of ourselves. I’ve been through a
lot of changes in the past couple of years. What I’ve learned so far: sometimes
the only way to make things better is to change them; that it’s ok to ask for
help; and no matter what, the people that love your heart have your back
through all your silly, profound, meaningful and sometimes meaningless changes
and outbursts. Consistency is easy but it is also boring. Change can be hard.
It can take a lot of work but changes open the doors to possibilities beyond
your imagination.
I am a work
in progress… I’m ok with that. Why
today? Why the post-o-spinning head... cause it’s one of those days. Things are
spinning and I need to slow them down. Get back in touch with what I want and
who I am. So… what did I do? Took a long inhale... and then let it go. I realized how beautiful life is and remembered that everything is ok and that I'm completely totally flawed.
Tomorrow
night OCAD U is celebrating Project 31.
Our biggest fund raising event of the year! The office has been buzzing and the
balancing act between adrenaline and impending sickness has been a sheer feat of
professionalism. Looking forward to a night of art and wine. Congrats to my
fabulous co-workers for their hard work. The week is almost over. As for
tonight, I couldn't be more excited to teach. At the end of a long day at work
with swollen glands and a fluorescent light headache, my students bring me right
back to what I love. Yoga.
There is
nothing more beautiful than seeing a person being themselves. Imagine going
through your day being unapologetically you. - Steve Maraboli
Happy

For my Sister on her birthday… unchain yourself and let your beauty soar!
There are some bands that are just so amazing on so many levels - you can't help but want to be in their presence. Talent and personality combined go a very, very long way. The Paint Movement has been on my radar since last year when I first saw them play with their good friends Yukon Blonde at NXNE. It was one of the best live shows I have ever been to. Both bands are full of the most genuine people that happen to be over the top talented musicians. No divas in this crowd. On Saturday my stunning friend threw the day jam of CMW. Her increasingly popular company MUSI Artist Development hosted a day of music at Sazerac Lounge on King Street West. I have to say, my friends are ridiculously good looking. The room was overflowing with super (stunning) people, and The Paitn Movement stole the show. Their self titled debut was released last August.. if you don't own it, buy it today. (*shout out to Southern Souls, thank you for all of your fantastic videos xo)
I've been a real lazy blogger recently. I'm swamped at (life) work and really detest low(shit) quality posts. On Friday I missed my WTF. With CMW in town, LB's birthday AND the release of the Hunger Games (10/10) I was far from my computer. I'll make it up to you this week. In the meantime here's a bit of potpourri for your eyes with a little dose of Capitol influence...
Happy Monday lovers ;)
Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence, and Liam Hemsworth
This week... be yourself. The people that love you, will love you no matter what.
So the past week has fallen flat in terms of sourcing out any new bands or staggering across any 'get under skin' beats. Instead, i've been (blessed) to have the sound of the ocean at the foot of my bed. There is no sweeter sound in the entire world. It has been the soundtrack to my early morning Yoga practice and my late night Pinot Grigio heart to hearts with my Dad. It will definitely be hard to leave this all behind. Thankfully, Toronto has been coasting in the plus 20's all weekend and shows no sign of letting up anytime soon.
When my earphones have been in, the soundtrack to my favourite surf movie of all time, Shelter, has been my go to. that and Bahamas and Bon Iver - those boys come with me wherever I go ;) See you soon lovelies.
I live for the ocean. I'm pretty sure I was some sort of sea creature in my past life. There is something incredibly healing about salt water, in particular, that has the power to wash away all that is futile in life clearing the fog of misconception revealing the beauty & truth within. The beach has always been a place of deep reflection for me and being on holiday has been just what the doctor ordered. In attempts to stay as disconnected as possible to city life, i've been off my Apple(s) as much as possible until now. To sum up my weekly top five it would be: The ocean, the beach, yoga in the blazing sun, sailboats and sea glass. As for other inspirations heres some eye candy to inspire your weekend.
Remind you anything?

Thank you Mum, I'm in love
Two more days left to even out the tan, perfect the art of quiet mediation and paddle my way home.
Back to the city just in time for what's sure to be an unforgettable Canadian Music Week. K x
Spring is (almost) here... That being said, you never want to get too excited about the departure of winter until, hmmm... I'd say, April 21st. By that time, it's safe to assume that the snow is not coming back, that all the patios will be open for long hours of loitering, music festivals are in FULL swing, Bellwoods is full of good looking people, Yoga can be taught and practised...in the park, you can hear the nostalgic sound of skate boards on side streets and late night walks in the warm breeze are, yet again, irresistible. So, yes, spring is in the air. That we can be certain of.
1) This weekend I am determined to find my new bike. Although I adore my current bike ('Big Red' - 1983 Chesini from my Dad), after having my sweet little cruiser stolen last year, it's time to find me the perfect 'farmer's market - bike gang - band hopping bicyclette' for the much anticipated warm weather. Bike inspo:
2) RADIOHEAD TICKETS ARE SECURED!
Obviously this makes my WTF ... Huge thanks to my friends in high places for making my Radiohead dreams a reality. Maybe Tom Yorke will read this and dedicate "There, There" to me... Highly Unlikely.
3) New Favourite Design Blog: http://www.desiretoinspire.net/
Build me my own greenhouse.. and I will never leave.
I'm trying my hardest to be positive this morning, after all, It IS sunny outside.... buuut it feels like -20 (sigh). The Underground Market (TUM) was AMAZING last night.... even though it felt like -40. The food at TUM was incredible and worth every minute of wait time. Next month, La Carnita - first stop. I also found out that it is true what they say, wine does make you colder. I broke my toe on friday! annnd I think i'm tough and pretend it doesn't hurt... today it hurts - a lot. So ya, it's Monday morning and i'm cold and broken... that being said, what a great weekend. The soundtrack in the background was unexpectedly mixed up as well. Today is new music day.
I'm loving this band from Vancouver: YOUTH & GOLD. Take a listen. Like or Don't, not up to me. They are playing SXSE. Wish I could be there but found out some of the crew will be holding it down for us NXNE'ers. They have a new single out too - 'Time to Kill' - DL is free on their site. :)
Tickets: SOLD OUT! Sorry guys BUT don't worry you still have a chance - Tickets will be on sale for $15 at the door starting at 8pm. (Next TUM Event is April 7th, 6-11pm, tickets go on sale March 16th)
What's it all about? and why you don't want to miss it:
TUM is a social food market where you, the community, get the opportunity to sample the food of Toronto home cooks. This is a completely unique concept founded by my beautiful friend's older sister. She has just expanded her team and TUM is bigger and better than ever! As a TUM virgin myself, I am overwhelmed with anticipation. Here's a little sneak peek of what's in store for Sunday:
2. Do 100 (crunches, jumping jacks, sun salutations, burpees etc. everyday of march)
3. DANCE EVERYDAY - in your kitchen, at work, at Sneaky Dees, Red Light, at TUM, in your closet, on your bed, in your undies, with your friends, with your lover, in the car, on the street ... just do it!
