Blogger's Block

I'm feeling totally uninspired this week. There are so many things I WANT to write about but feel like a) I have NO time to sit down and write and b) I can't get further than the idea. People are giving me great material these days too! aaaaand i'm stuck. One way to move past the block... tell you my ideas and you can pick?!?!?! Maybe if I narrow the playing field it will just flow. The things that need to be said:
a) Fashions transition into Fall
b) The importance of your daily Yoga practice
c) What to eat NOW
d) Ten wishes to the universe
e) Living in transition
f) New music (but you can wait till monday for that one)
What do you want?

In the meantime... Vintage Yoga Pics are always great. I think I'm going to teach in a striped jumper on Monday.

Spotlight: Radioseven

I can't quite remember how I stumbled upon radioseven but for about a year now the song 'don't think' (personal favourite) always makes a cameo in my yoga classes (when i teach with music). The rest of the album is one of my go to's whenever lyrics are getting in the way of just listening to the music. No matter how hard you try you won't find his/her name, bio, origins, influences... you won't find anything really. The only description you'll get is: "an exploration of art and science". What you will find are links to free downloads of new EP's accompanied by great photography. Anonymity meets humility. I hope he/she never stops making music.

Hope this starts your week off right...

It's Friday & I Have Plant Envy

Another week just flew by! I really hope to slow things down a bit so I can savour the fall... hmmm I took a lieu day today. Over worked, swollen glands, sinus pain, tired eyes and a lot of rain - seemed like the logical thing to do. Managed to make it to Yoga this morning, lunch at Pizza Libretto and have now spent a solid 5 hours looking at beautiful things online while drinking endless amounts of tea in bed.
And NOW ... I have plant envy (damn you Maurizio Zucch)

I need to live in the California dessert. Only there can you have a full grown cactus and sky high plants in your living room. I will live in the dessert and my house will look something like this. Promise.
Plant & FLOOR envy ... more floor envy really. Painted wood reminds me of summers in Maine, Beach houses, vintage clothing and... Audrey Hepburn (?) I'm slightly delirious & nostalgic right now.
On the set of Sabrina. I love her. So much.
Have an amazing weekend! FYI Ahimsa Yoga YTT Starts tomorrow!!! Good luck to all the new teacher's to be, you are in safe hands ;) see you all bright and early!

September Playlist

Don't be confused by the overall feel of September's playlist. This past weekend was amazing, in every sense of the word, and sometimes, this is the soundtrack to the best moments of our lives, not necessarily the dark ones or the sad ones. Whenever I come back to the city after being away, it just feels loud. How fitting then that my beautiful friend and yoga teacher would sing the most gorgeous song in savasana at yoga tonight that only serves to remind us that...  "when you close your eyes, the street sounds like the sea".  Anywaysssss... i'm not brooding, just a little pensive.

The fall Equinox is on Wednesday - take some time to think about what this shift in seasons means to/for you. How the chill in the air, the changing leaves and the return of the pumpkin spice latte shifts not only your priorities, but also your music choices, your style, your practice and for some of us, our dreams. Personally, I love fall. It is the best season, and even though it brings with it the possibility of a treacherous winter, in the moment, layering feels oh so sweet!

Stay warm... cuddle :)

(last night @) Festival Music House

Nothing beats three consecutive nights of great live music. In it's second year at TIFF, Festival Music House showcases a selection of Canada's leading talent at The Mod Club, setting the stage for an amazing experience of music the way music was meant to be heard. Last night we made it out for Lights, The Sheepdogs (Still flying high from their Rolling Stone cover debut) and crowd favourite, Sam Roberts. We danced, mingled, had a few (too many) drinks and paid for it today with the overall feeling of being only half-human.
Sam Roberts Band
Sam Roberts seriously gets better looking at every show he plays. I said it. Apparently that old crush is STILL kickin' around, who knew?!?
Lights
I only knew of Lights cause of that one song.. you know the one, where she's in the space ship and you can't help but listen to it on repeat, really f'ing loud in your car singing at the top of your lungs thinking how the hell does she know exactly how i'm feeling RIGHT NOW? A little too pop for my taste but I can't help but have respect for the girl, she ditched her band late in her set, pulled out her acoustic and delivered the most breathtaking Bjork cover. (*highlight*)
These guys are just simply fantastic. If you missed the onslaught of appearances they made over the summer right here in Toronto, check out how, where and when you're going to get to their next show. Then, buy tickets and show up, you won't be disappointed. Promise (#1).

(Promise #2) I promise to put songs by most of the bands that performed on next Monday's playlist...

For now, i mean in the right now, i'm cuddled up at home, drinking mint tea, listening to Album Leaf preparing for a long, sweet sleep. You'd think my FOMO would be on full force but honestly, three nights in a row? A girl needs her beauty sleep!  Tonights line-up would have been amazing, so, if you're there, or if you were there, tell me all about it... just don't rub it in too much ;)

Here's some of what we're missing tonight:
Hey Rosetta
Rural Alberta ADvantage
The Arkells
Check them out. Buy their albums. Listen to live music...live.

Night night lovely ones.

Music Spotlight: Lana Del Rey

I completely intended on having Septembers playlist up today, but my computer is at the doctor :( Next week! Stay tuned. Until then this chick is bad ass. Mainly because she calls her music "sad core". And because she's brilliant (& gorgeous) & is a Brooklyn Native. Listen. Love.

What we can learn from our Grandparents: The true meaning of style and why celebrities are just like us...

The stars have descended on Toronto for this years International Film Fest. Sadly. I'm only seeing a glimpse of what I'd like to this year. With a new job (!), busy teaching schedule and my girl visiting from Israel, there is little time to mingle with the stars... at least this weekend ;) We'll see how next week pans out. One thing I love about TIFF, regardless of whether or not you are attending the films, parties, exhibits or what have you, is the comments you overhear on the street, in elevators, at restaurants etc. Everyone has a story, everyone seems to know someone (or like to think they themselves are someones) but best of all the city is alive and full of creative energy!
The most amazing comment yet came to me from the ruby red lips of the flawlessly put together, Chanel clad 80 something lady that I happen to always cross paths with in some seredipidous fashion. She always has something fantastic and wise to say and always inspires me with her effortless sense of style:

"Love. Did you hear?. ?. ?. Brad and Ange are in town. I'm not too excited about meeting those two; however, you know I saw Bono last night. Lovely man. Very talented. But here is what you must remember sweetie, these stars, these "celebrities"... they pull up their pants just like you and I..."
(love her),

Seeds of Wisdom

The Dalai Lama was asked what surprises you the most, he replied:

"Man, because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then he dies having never really lived."

Live.

Throwbacks (A)

Labour day weekend is officially over. Three days of perfect on the lake with the girls is probably the best way to kiss the sweetness of a long, hot summer goodbye. I just sat down at my computer for the first time since Friday and it feels like in the past 72 hrs. summer decided to just pack it's bags leaving behind amazing memories, the remnants of a golden tan and the first signs of fall (I am so cold right now!) We listened to a lot of throw backs this weekend so it only seems fitting that today's music selection follows the same nostalgic tone.
