Ahimsa Yoga: The 5 Commitments

AHIMSA ~ In the 8-limbed path of Ashtanga Yoga, this is the first premise of the first limb. All yoga practice should be built on this first principle - non-harming.

I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by the amazing Yoga community that is Ahimsa Yoga. In the heart of the annex lies a studio with not only fantastic teachers and students but a vision that makes yoga accessible to everybody. Honouring the practise of Ahimsa simply means practising in a non-harming fashion both to yourself and the environment around you. Take your practise off your mat and into the world. Ahimsa is more then just a place to hit your mat. It a a little safe haven where you can mix, mingle, learn, transform, grow your practise and live your truth! Come check us out...

The 5 Commitments are the foundations upon which the Ahimsa Yoga practice was built.

Sthira (steadiness),
Sukha (ease),
SuĊ›umna (“the core”),
Prana (conscious breathing to find energy) &
Satya (seeking Truth)

Maintaining commitment to these essential principles of practice brings us closer to the realization of yoga’s potential for each of us as individuals.  Whether your practice is a fiery-intense vinyasa flow, or a deeply introspective meditation, or just the first steps into the world of yoga practice, practicing the 5 Commitments will make your practice stronger, safer, more energizing, more inspiring, and more satisfying.

Last Nights Tarot

THE MOON

The Moon is numbered eighteen and depicts a mysterious night-time scene. There is often water in the foreground, a full moon depicting the face of a woman sailing high about the land, flanked by pylons. Sometimes droplets appear to be falling like tears from the Moon, taking the form of Hebraic Yod symbols (considered to be impregnatory seeds). There are also sometimes dogs or wolves baying at the Moon. The Moon card you see here depicts Anubis, the jackal god of the Egyptians. There is also usually a crayfish or scarab.

The crayfish is renowned for its ability to fall in love with, mate and impregnate itself. This suggests some of the Moon's more illusory meanings. The scarab is almost always shown with a solar disk between its claws. This is a symbol of renewal and immortality, showing the Moon's association with natural cycles and rhythms.
We have a close affinity with the Moon. The lunar cycle affects oceans and all natural tides. We say that people are more psychotic when the Moon is full, calling them "lunatics". The Moon affects our emotions because they come from the inner hidden part of us, where dreams also reside.

The Moon indicates a voyage to the centre of the Self. We will not be revealed as something weak and unlovable. We will be able to release our psychic and intuitive abilities. Important secrets are revealed when we dare to bring back what is deep inside.

Taken from Angel Paths http://www.angelpaths.com/majors/moon.html

Usually reserved for Full Moon Celebrations, last night my like-minded 'witchy' friends and I pulled some cards after enjoying a delicious home-made meal in our back garden. It was special.
Also, got me thinking about Tuesday's being Tarot Tuesday on savageOM... thoughts? I'll pick the card tuesday morning, blog it and let it work its way into your life, or simply consider what message it carries with it. We'll give it a try.
Love & infinite light!

Inspired Aesthetic: The Flying Pigeon

A bicycle with style, elegance and an amazing cultural background. To say i'm excited about my friends
new project is a massive under-statement. For our growing creative, culturally engaged and style addict class of characters, The Flying Pigeon is a captivating story teller that will have no trouble flying into the hearts of North America's bicycle cities.

My good friend Tommy Wong is one of those guys you just want to be friends with. You want him around, not only cause he's charming and funny, but because he's inspired by life. I met Tommy back in 2002 at Bishop's University and just recently learned about what he's been up too since our days at the country club: A (little) project called TheFlyingPigeon.com, a collaboration between the brand itself and Yulu, a multi-cultural Vancouver/Shanghai based advertising agency that facilitates the growth of brands in both markets. This uniquely historic Chinese brand is taking flight in North America and its inspired aesthetic and cultural roots have got me itching for my very own Flying Pigeon Bicycle.

If you live in Toronto and you know anything about our streets and neighbourhoods, you most likely already have a bike. Depending on how you may 'label' yourself, you either ride a cruiser, a fixed gear, or some wicked road bike from 1983 you found in the back of your parents garage. Suffice it to say, the best mode of transportation is the bicycle and it keeps gaining ground in both style and function. The Flying Pigeon with its chic elegant style would most likely be found gracing the pages of magazines and style blogs, ridden by beautiful men & women in sartorialist inspired outfits. These beauties are undeniably coveted. Its distinct attention-grabbing look provides a unique offering and complements the way the North American style set lives. Not to mention it's set at a price-point that makes it more accessible than most luxury bikes (a.k.a. it won't break the bank).

If you live in Vancouver, you're in luck! You can take a first-hand look at their pop-up showroom located in the historic Gastown and for the rest you North American bike lovers check our their online store and all the amazing videos linked below. There is a whole lot of creativity behind this brand.  Hopefully next time you see me i'll be cruising around on one... a girl can dream ;)
     Special thanks to Tommy Wong,

The one show you MUST see at T.O. Fringe Fest: Cancer Can't Dance Like This

Unbelievably talented, charming and sexy. Three of many words that could be used to describe Dan Stolfi - the man behind Cancer Can't Dance Like This, a one man show in this year's Toronto Fringe Festival. Today was my second time seeing Dan in action This truly is the best live theatre you will ever witness. Dan's story reaches the hearts of EVERYBODY.  It is raw creativity at its finest, infused with laughter, release, brutal honesty and an incredible amount of heart. I have been lucky enough to get to know some of the people who helped Dan bring this show to many stages across Canada, they are all equally as inspiring and talented, not to mention the best support crew a man could ask for. Having stepped out of the theatre only an hour ago, i'm still having one of those joygasms that leaves you feeling like there is nothing you can't achieve, no dream to big and everything to live forSo if you haven't seen it yet, see it. It will change your life.

Music Monday

It's one of those days where the heat of the city and the lingering haze of the weekend make you crave air conditioning, a king size bed, Bose headphones and music like this. Close your eyes.

What was that? You DON'T know who SAM JAMES is?

Starting a blog is like going on a first date, but instead of having to talk about yourself to one person (who you may never see again), you are dating the (entire) internet - roughly between 2 to possibly hundreds of people... depending on who gives a sh*t about what you (I) have to say. hmmm did i mention i've NEVER enjoyed first dates? For some reason not having to look you in the eye makes this whole process a hell of a lot easier. So, here is fun fact #1 about me: I love coffee. I'm not just a coffee drinker, I am a full fledge coffee enthusiast/junkie. Which means that at any given time i'm either a) at a coffee shop b) thinking about espresso beans or c) highly over caffeinated - recipe for jitters and anxiety all mixed up with feelings of warmth, love and affection. I'll drink Starbucks if I have to but frequent the growing number of little indie espresso bars popping up all over toronto. So today when I posted the picture below captioning it "Best part of my day" only to get a reply along the lines of "ummmm SJCB?" from one of my fabulous friends I couldn't believe there was someone living in toronto who hadn't been to Sam James Coffee Bar. 297 Harbord is a little mecca for Americano addicts, Bike riders and hipsters - which translates to: really good looking people drinking amazing coffee creations stirred up by one of their equally good-looking Baristas. Oh, and Sam James himself is also pretty easy on the eyes ;)
SJCB
Get into it.

In Pursuit of Inspiration

The wee hours of the morning are reserved for finding new music. Far too many day time hours are spent procrastinating over fashion blogs. What do I end up with? Great playlists, lots of inspiration and tired eyes. I love creative people and love what they share with the world so in attempts to move away from facebook posting I'm moving towards blogging. So read what you want, listen to what inspires you and come hang out in my yoga classes and talk about cool sh*t... deal? Great. So in pursuit of my own (continued) happiness and as a way to spread the mass amounts of creativity out there, here it is in savage chaos and in no particular order. Also, My teaching schedule is to the right so come hang out and do yoga. Thanks for checking in... K x
